The Gaku from the MaMo Nouchies Series by Ingo Maurer has such a sculptural presence that it is more a piece of art than a table lamp. The calyx shaped shade of the Gaku is formed artistically out of natural colored paper supported by two stainless steel bars with transparent silicon batons. The metal base of the Gaku secures a safe stand, a stainless steel connection cable, and a cord transformer with slide control.
The MaMoNouchies collection was brought to life by Ingo Maurer and Dagmar Mombach. The name derives from the first two letters of Maurer's and Mombach's last names, paired with Nouchies, paying homage to Isamu Noguchi, whose designed the iconic Akari paper shades.
The individual pieces are named after ancient tribal spirits from all over the world.
Mombach invented the unique patented process inspired by ancient Japanese tradition. It involves the manipulation of plain sheets of paper, by pulling and folding. Often up to eight separate treatments are needed to create the desired effect. A soft, warm light filters through the intricate, yet beautifully simple paper shade, bringing the sculptural form to life with poetic motion.
